Man in custody, charged after nearly 10-hour long standoff

FRANKLIN COUNTY, VA – A man is in custody after a nearly 10-hour long standoff in Franklin County.

Thursday at around 2:45 p.m., the Franklin County Sheriff's Office arrived in the 1200 block of Bonbrook Mill Road for a warrant service.

Upon approach to the residence, the subject barricaded himself in the home.


The sheriff's office said 28-year-old Clinton Wayne Wiseman, of Wirtz, went into a storm shelter.


He fired multiple shots inside, but not at deputies.


Wiseman was taken into custody around midnight after tear gas was administered.


The original warrants being served were for three counts of reckless handling of a firearm, brandishing a firearm and assault on a family member.


Charges as a result of the standoff include two additional counts of reckless handling of a firearm, obstruction of justice, two counts of unlawfully shooting in an occupied building and a bomb or burn threat.


He is being held in the Franklin County Jail.
