Ridgeway rescue squad vehicle involved in Martinsville crash

MARTINSVILLE, VA – Police in Martinsville are investigating a Saturday crash involving a Ridgeway District Volunteer Rescue Squad vehicle.

The crash happened at 5:54 p.m. on Mulberry Road at the intersection of Oakdale Street.

According to the crash report, a 2017 Ford F-150 was going south on Oakdale Street, disregarded a clearly posted stop sign and was hit by Ridgeway’s unit 600, a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe, that was going east on Mulberry Road.

This information was verified by a dash cam video from inside the Chevrolet.

“While returning to the station, our vehicle was involved in a collision with another vehicle,” RDVRS Captain Travis Pruitt wrote in a Facebook post on Saturday. “Thankfully, all safety protocols were followed, and everyone on board, is safe and unharmed.”

Police said the Ford was driven by Billy Joe Breeding, of Honaker, who was charged with reckless driving.

Breeding was taken to Sovah Health to be evaluated.

“Our team is currently assessing the damage to the emergency vehicle and coordinating with local authorities to complete the necessary reports. We want to assure you that this incident will not impact our ability to provide essential emergency services to our community,” Captain Pruitt added.
