Rear-end collision leaves vehicle in river in Henry County

HENRY COUNTY, VA – Two people were taken to the hospital following a rear-end collision in Henry County on Tuesday afternoon.

It occurred on Appalachian Drive near Wooddale Court in the Kohler community of the county at around 2:30 p.m.

According to state police, a Nissan Pathfinder was rear-ended by a Dodge Stratus sending the Nissan into the Smith River.

The Dodge continued until coming to a stop in the parking lot of Chicken in a Basket restaurant.

State police said speed was a factor.

Two patients, the driver to each vehicle, were transported to Sovah Health in Martinsville by Fieldale-Collinsville Rescue Squad and Bassett Rescue Squad.

Fieldale Volunteer Fire Company, Henry County Sheriff's Office and Henry County Department of Public Safety assisted.

The crash remains under investigation.
