Police Investigating Deadly Shooting on Rivermont Avenue in Lynchburg

Lynchburg, Va. August 19, 2025 (BTW21) - The Lynchburg Police Department is investigating after a person was found dead with a gunshot wound Monday night.
Officers and members of the Lynchburg Fire Department responded to a report of a malicious wounding at approximately 8:58 p.m. in the 1100 block of Rivermont Avenue.
When they arrived, police discovered the victim deceased in the yard.
Authorities initially reported the victim as a woman but later clarified that the individual’s gender has not been confirmed.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.
Investigators say it is unclear at this time whether the shooting was targeted.
