Martinsville police arrest suspect of Monday night's shooting

MARTINSVILLE, VA – Martinsville police have arrested the suspect of Monday night's shooting.


The shooting occurred in the area of Fayette and Spencer streets around 6:40 p.m.


19-year-old Jasoni Hairston, of Martinsville, was found at the scene suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg, according to police.


Hairston was taken to the hospital in Martinsville and then to one in Roanoke.


23-year-old Tamarius Keshun Martin, of Martinsville, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and shooting into an occupied building.


All are felony charges.


Martin is being held without bond.



 




MARTINSVILLE, VA – A 19-year-old man was shot in Martinsville on Monday night.

A Martinsville Police officer in the area of Fayette Street told a 9-1-1 dispatcher that he had heard several shots nearby.

At 6:42 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Fayette and Spencer streets, where a man reported that he had been shot.

Jasoni Hairston, of Martinsville, was found there suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg, according to police.

Hairston was transported to Sovah Health by Martinsville Fire and EMS and then transferred to Carillion Roanoke, where he was treated for his non-life-threatening injuries.


At the scene, Sergeant C. Bennett told BTW21 News they did not have information on a suspect.


The incident is under investigation.
