Martinsville police identify woman killed in high-speed chase on Christmas morning


MARTINSVILLE, VA – A 23-year-old woman is dead following a high-speed pursuit early Christmas morning.

Just after 3 a.m. Friday, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office attempted to pull over a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer on Virginia Avenue in Collinsville.

According to police radio traffic, the Chevrolet fled reaching speeds of up to 112 miles per hour.

The Martinsville Police Department said the vehicle ran off the right side of Memorial Boulevard near Salem Street and rolled over.

The driver, Jasmine Lashea Watkins, of Danville, was partially ejected and died at the scene, according to police.

The sheriff's office did not provide any information regarding the vehicle pursuit.

City police continue to investigate the crash.
