Man who died after fiery crash on Route 220 identified

FRANKLIN COUNTY, VA – The driver of an SUV died Friday morning in a crash with a tractor trailer in Franklin County.


The crash occurred northbound Route 220 near Aviator’s Circle at around 5 a.m.


A 2017 Jeep Cherokee was going north on Route 220, when it ran off the right side of the road and hit a 2017 Volvo tractor trailer, which was illegally parked on the right shoulder of the road, according to the Virginia State Police.


Both vehicles then caught fire causing them to completely burn.


State Police said the driver of the Jeep, Latovia O'Brayn Johnson, 36, of Greensboro, NC, died in the crash and it is unknown if he was wearing his seatbelt.


Johnson's remains were been sent to the medical examiner's office for identification.


The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured, police said.


The crash remains under investigation.
