Partnership working on making Henry County schools' playgrounds more inclusive

HENRY COUNTY, VA – Henry County Public Schools are working on making their playgrounds more inclusive for all students.

They started this process two summers ago and allocated funds to buy equipment as part of their Safe and Innovative Learning Environment Plan.

The money will be used to buy inclusive playground equipment for all county schools based on their needs.

Meadowview Elementary School will get a completely new playground with inclusive equipment like wheelchair-accessible flooring, swings, merry-go-rounds, sensory walls, drums, and shades for sun protection.

Construction on Meadowview's playground has already started.

The Martinsville-Henry County Lions Club has been raising money since the summer of last year to help with this project.

They've already received nearly $45,000 in donations and are applying for a grant from Lions Club International, which could match up to $75,000.

They're aiming to raise more money by May, and the deadline for the grant application is August 1.

Donations can be made via CashApp to $MHCLions, to any Lions Club member, or by mail to Martinsville-Henry County Lions Club, PO Box 133, Martinsville, VA, 24114 with the memo "Inclusive playground project."
