MARTINSVILLE, Va. — Patrick & Henry Community College’s (P&HCC) Racing College of Virginia is set to take on Martinsville Speedway this weekend in the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 with driver Jimmy Mullins behind the wheel.

Now in his second season with the Racing College team, Mullins is bringing decades of racing experience to the track.“We’ve learned a lot over the last year and we’ve built a car for this weekend’s race with that knowledge,” Mullins said. “We’re excited to show what we’ve got.”

The Racing College team has been hard at work in preparation, spending time in the shop and testing at South Boston Speedway. Students enrolled in the program have been directly involved in every step of the process.“Our students have been part of every stage of preparation for the race.

They’re ready to put their work to the ultimate test,” said Racing College instructor Talmage Thomas.

P&HCC’s Racing College of Virginia is the only program of its kind in the state, and one of only a handful nationwide, offering two career studies certificates that can be applied toward an associate degree.

After Martinsville, students will showcase their car at local events and car shows before hosting an Open House for the community at their race shop on October 22.
