Man arrested after fake active shooting reported at Walmart

ROCKY MOUNT, VA – A Boones Mill man was arrested after falsely reporting an active shooting situation at Walmart.


The Rocky Mount Police Department says they, along with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police, responded to the scene after they received a 9-1-1 call for an active shooter.


Once on scene, officers confirmed that there was no active shooter.


Police say they arrested 24-year-old Mason Harrison States after they found him in a wooded area near the store.


Officers charged States with making a false report and using a phone to interfere with police operations.


Additional charges are pending consultation with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.


States is being held without bond at the Franklin County Jail.

ROCKY MOUNT, VA – One person was arrested after falsely reporting an active shooting situation at Walmart.


Authorities says they got a 9-1-1 call for a possible active shooter at Walmart in Rocky Mount on Monday at approximately 12:45 p.m.


The Rocky Mount Police Department along with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police responded to the scene.


Once on scene, officers confirmed that there was no active shooter, but did take one person into custody.
