Suspect, Henry County deputy injured after pursuit ends with crash

HENRY COUNTY, VA – A high-speed chase resulted in a Henry County Sheriff’s Office deputy and the suspect injured Friday night.


A Virginia State Police trooper attempted to stop a white van for driving without lights and a pursuit started at 8:59 p.m.


The trooper, with the assistance of several deputies attempted a rolling roadblock to slow and stop the suspect vehicle, according to state police.


The suspect attempted to escape the vehicle containment and hit an unmarked Henry County Sheriff's Office Chevrolet Tahoe, which caused the van to overturn in the median.

This happened on Greensboro Road in the vicinity of Lee Ford Camp Road.


The suspect was identified as Jerri Jean Dehart, 51, of Martinsville, who was wanted for several outstanding warrants.


Police said Dehart was injured and airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist in North Carolina.


The deputy was wearing his seatbelt and was injured, according to authorities.


He was taken to a local hospital.


Charges for this incident are pending.


The crash reconstruction team was called to assist.
