ROCKY MOUNT, VA – One person is dead and another was injured in a Thursday afternoon shooting in Rocky Mount.
The Rocky Mount Police responded at 3:22 p.m. to the area of North Main Street and Circle Drive after getting calls that several people had been shot.
Upon arrival, police officers say they found two individuals with gunshot wounds.
One victim was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital and another victim was pronounced dead on site and transported to the medical examiner’s office.
Authorities said they have the suspected shooter in custody.
It is believed this is an isolated incident, and the community is not in danger.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
There are no other known suspects at this time, according to police.
The police department was assisted by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, Virginia State Police, and Franklin County Public Safety.
