HENRY COUNTY, VA – Henry County declared a local state of emergency due to significant rainfall and flooding on Friday morning.
The declaration will assist first responders in coordinating the numerous resources that may be needed to respond and recover from this disaster.
As many as 40 cars were trapped by flood waters mainly in the Bassett Forks community of the county, according to VDOT.
The National Weather Service said that life-threatening flooding along Route 220 in Bassett Forks was reported by 9-1-1.
This lead to evacuations from vehicles and houses by multiple Henry County volunteer and personnel emergency crews.
The Franklin County Department of Public Safety was called to assist.
The area saw between four and five inches of rain, NWS reported.
