MARTINSVILLE, VA – Sovah Health has started an update series to share information with the public related to COVID-19.

This will include the status of hospital operations and the safety measures being taken to protect patients, staff and community.

These updates will be delivered every two weeks by various physician leaders, the hospital said.

As of Wednesday, Dr. Sheranda Gunn-Nolan of Sovah Health says they are treating nearly 30 patients across both campuses who have tested positive for COVID-19.

As reported by the Virginia Department of Health, cases have increased in July, with this, hospitals have seen an increase in hospitalizations, according to officials.

At this time, officials say their hospitals have adequate capacity to meet patient needs, including in critical care and intensive care.

Sovah says they continue to take precautions to protect patients and staff from the virus, including limiting entry points to the facility, screening all individuals for symptoms, universal masking, and maintain a strict limited visitor protocol

The hospital reminds the public to do their part to prevent the spread of the coronavirus by practicing social distancing and proper hand hygiene, and wearing a mask or face covering while in public.
