Narcotics Arrest Made Following Traffic Stop in Henry County

HENRY COUNTY, VA (BTW21)– A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of illegal narcotics, including suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
On July 17, 2025, deputies with the Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Interdiction Unit conducted a traffic stop after identifying Billy Joe Plaster as a passenger in a vehicle driven by Kevin Devaughn Smith.
Authorities confirmed Plaster had an outstanding capias for his arrest.
During the stop, K9 Zajo was deployed and gave a positive alert for narcotics inside the vehicle.
A subsequent search resulted in the discovery of multiple illegal substances and drug-related items.
Among the findings was a quantity of suspected fentanyl found in the possession of another passenger, Prince Eric Hanson.
As part of the investigation, a 2010 Mercedes was seized. All suspected narcotics and evidence have been sent to the Virginia Department of Forensic Science for further analysis.
The following individuals were arrested and charged:

Probation Violation (VA Code §19.2-306)

Kevin Devaughn Smith
Possession of Methamphetamine (VA Code §18.2-250)

Possession of Fentanyl with Intent to Distribute (VA Code §18.2-248)
Officials urge anyone with information about illegal drug activity to contact the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at (276) 638-8751 or anonymously through the Crimestoppers Program at 63-CRIME (632-7463).
Tips leading to an arrest and conviction may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,500.
