LYNCHBURG, Va. (BTW21) — The mother of a 5-month-old infant who was found dead earlier this year in Lynchburg now faces an additional felony charge, according to the Lynchburg Police Department.
Authorities confirmed that 23-year-old Endia Walker was formally served on Monday with a felony homicide charge under Virginia Code 18.2-33. This charge follows a previous child neglect charge filed against her in connection with the death of her infant.
The incident came to light when Lynchburg police responded to a call regarding an unresponsive child.
The baby was pronounced dead at the scene, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
Walker was initially arrested and charged with child neglect shortly afterward.
The additional felony homicide charge suggests that investigators have uncovered new evidence or information pointing to a greater level of responsibility in the child's death.
Under Virginia law, felony homicide applies when a death occurs in the commission of certain felonies, including child abuse or neglect.
Walker is currently being held at the Lynchburg Adult Detention Center.
Authorities have not released further details on the cause of the child's death or what led to the escalation in charges.
The case remains under active investigation.
