MARTINSVILLE, VA – A Henry County man has been arrested for a Friday morning shooting in Martinsville.
At around 11:30 a.m., the Martinsville Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in the 1000 block of Cherry Street.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers say they discovered that a man had sustained an apparent gunshot wound and had been transported to SOVAH Health in Martinsville for treatment.
On Monday, Steven O’Neal Porter, 40, of Spencer was arrested by Carilion Roanoke Police.
According to police, Porter is the man that was taken to the hospital for the gunshot wound following the shooting.
However, the circumstances of the case and the evidence recovered led to the charges filed against him, authorities said.
Porter faces the following charges:
Attempted murder
Possess firearm by convicted violent felon
Possess ammunition by convicted felon
Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the Martinsville Police Department urges anyone with information to come forward.
