MARTINSVILLE, VA – An employee of Mulberry Creek Nursing and Rehab Center in Martinsville has tested positive for COVID-19.
Bob Nelson, the facility's administrator, said in an email to residents and family members that they were notified by the health department on Friday about the case.
“One of our non-clinical employees tested positive for COVID-19 after being hospitalized for unrelated symptoms,” he wrote in an email obtained by BTW21 News.
Under new federal requirements, nursing homes are required to inform residents and their families about coronavirus cases in their facilities.
Nelson said that since learning about the positive test, Mulberry Creek has tested all employees and anticipate having the results on Monday.
He also said that the positive result announced on May 13 of a resident, who was asymptomatic, was a “false” positive.
“We wanted to update you that further testing on this particular resident produced two separate negative COVID-19 results, indicating that the first test was a “false” positive,” Nelson said in the email.
