Martinsville Man in Custody Following Shooting Incident on Massey Street

Martinsville, VA (BTW21) — On Sunday, June 29, 2025, Devin Jamar Stockton surrendered to authorities at the Martinsville Police Department following a warrant for his arrest in connection to a shooting incident earlier in the week.
Stockton now faces multiple felony charges, including attempted murder, malicious wounding, and various firearm-related offenses.
The charges stem from a violent encounter that took place on June 27, around 5:30 p.m., in the area of Massey Street.
Martinsville police officers responded to reports of multiple gunshots and a possible victim.
A male victim suffering from gunshot wounds to his lower body, along with several graze wounds, was later located at SOVAH Martinsville Emergency Department. He was treated and released after receiving medical care.
According to the police investigation, a verbal dispute between two men residing in neighboring homes escalated when one of them—identified as Stockton—allegedly drew a firearm and began firing at the other.
A search warrant was executed at 105 Massey Street, where additional evidence was recovered linking Stockton to the shooting.
Mr. Stockton, a convicted felon, was wanted on the following charges:
Attempted Murder
Malicious Wounding
Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
Possession of a Weapon in the Commission of a Felony
Discharging a Firearm in the City
Reckless Handling of a Firearm Causing Serious Injury
He is currently being held without bond at the Martinsville City Jail. Authorities emphasize that the investigation is ongoing.
