Martinsville man arrested for stabbing neighbor in the chest

MARTINSVILLE – A Martinsville man was arrested for stabbing his neighbor in the chest on Friday.

Police responded to a call that a person had been stabbed at an apartment in the 900 block of Myrtle Road in Martinsville.

Officers say they found 43-year-old Anthony Crawford bleeding from his chest.

Crawford was transported to SOVAH Health and then to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital where he was treated and later released.

Police say evidence collected at the scene determined Crawford’s neighbor, 49-year-old Tyrone Angelo Cox, was the suspect.

Search warrants of Cox's apartment led to the discovery of stolen property from Crawford's apartment.

Cox was arrested and charged with felony malicious wounding and is being held without bond.

Police are seeking additional charges of burglary and grand larceny.

The Martinsville Police Department says the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with any information regarding this crime is asked to contact the police department at 276-638-8751 or the Crime Stoppers Program at 276-63-CRIME.
