Martinsville city schools make home visits to stay connected with students

MARTINSVILLE, VA – Martinsville City Public Schools along with the Martinsville Sheriff’s Office and school resource officers from the Martinsville Police Department began Operation Stay Connected.

The purpose of this initiative is to check on students’ mental health and well-being.

On Monday, officials made home visits to students at the Maplewood Apartments complex.

Schools have not heard from students frequently since school began in August, so officers will be making home visits two times each week, changing neighborhoods each week.

“I am excited by this new initiative with our local law enforcement agencies,” said Superintendent Dr. Zeb Talley. “We want our community to know that MCPS and our enforcement partners want to ensure their safety especially during this time of pandemic. Our community can be very proud of this collaboration.

The locations officers will be visiting each week will be posted on MCPS's social media accounts and website.
