ROCKY MOUNTY, VA – Two people are dead in Rocky Mount following an apparent murder-suicide.
At about 11:20 p.m. Saturday, authorities received a call from a juvenile reporting that a man had stabbed his elderly mother and fled.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office then responded to the 200 block of Southside Drive.
There, the Franklin County Public Safety provided emergency medical assistance to the stabbing victim, 70-year-old Jacqueline Green, but attempts to revive were unsuccessful.
After conducting perimeter searches with Virginia State Police, deputies located the suspect, 40-year-old Silas Leon Green Jr., at his residence in the 100 block of Southside Drive.
When they entered his house, he was dead of what appears to be self-inflicted wounds, according to the sheriff's office.
The investigation of this incident remains ongoing.
