Man shot in abdomen on Halloween in Henry County

On October 31, 2020, at 11:22 pm, the Martinsville-Henry County 911 center received a call from Glenwood Ray Draper, 55, of 880 Hidden Valley Dr., Martinsville, VA.  Draper advised that Perry Hall was at his home intoxicated and threatening him.  Deputies responded to the scene and found Perry Wayne Hall, 37, of Rocky Mount VA, suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Through the course of the investigation, it was discovered that Perry Hall and Glenwood Draper knew each other.  Hall had traveled to Hidden Valley Drive and parked his vehicle in the 900 block of Hidden Valley Dr. then walked to Draper’s home.  Hall knocked on the door; when Draper opened the door, Hall forced his way inside.  Once inside the home, Hall demanded that Draper give him rings that belonged to Hall’s mother.  Hall began to look through Draper's house; it was at this time that Draper called 9-1-1.

While Hall was looking around Draper’s home, he saw a loaded firearm.  When Hall tried to get the gun, Draper also grabbed it to keep Hall from getting it.  A struggle ensued over the gun resulting in Hall being shot.

Mr. Draper called 9-1-1 again to report the shooting.  Hall was transported to SOVAH Health Martinsville and subsequently airlifted to Roanoke, Virginia, where he underwent surgery. Hall remains hospitalized.

This case remains under investigation.  The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is in communication with the Henry County Commonwealth’s Attorney to see if any charges develop from this incident.
