Man shoots his daughter's boyfriend then kills himself

A Patrick Springs man has been airlifted following a Wednesday night shooting, according to Patrick County Sheriff Dan Smith.

Tony Ray Chaney, 50, of Randolph Lane, was allegedly shot in the neck during an altercation on Anthony Drive near Randoph Lane.

The call came in to the 911 communications center at 9:02 PM.

James Grady Dillon, 70, of Myrtle Lane in Bassett, was quickly identified as a suspect.

Dillon and Chaney had been at odds with one another, according to Smith, and Chaney is currently in a relationship with Dillon's daughter.

Dillon allegedly approached Chaney as he was walking on Anthony drive.

Dillon then fired a shot from his vehicle, striking Chaney in the neck.

Dillon then fled in his vehicle.

A look out regarding Dillon was immediately given to area law enforcement.

Patrick and Henry County deputies, along with state troopers, began to search for Dillon.

A short time later, Henry County deputies located and confronted Dillon on Willie Craig Road.

Smith said that his personnel were told by Henry County authorities that Dillon suffered a gunshot during the confrontation.

Henry County authorities further advised that the gunshot is suspected to be self inflicted. Dillon later died from his injury.

Chaney's condition is currently unknown.

The investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Investigator Jason Kruse with the Patrick County Sheriff's Office at 276 694 3161.
