HENRY COUNTY, VA – A manhunt is continuing Thursday for a 36-year-old man who fled from law enforcement after sexually abusing a child, sheriff’s officials said.
On Wednesday around 6 pm, the Henry County Sheriff's Office was called to Raceway Inn, located at 1044 Memorial Boulevard, for a child who had been sexually assaulted.
Deputies responded and said they discovered that a 6-year-old child had briefly been left in the care of Lucas John Donley of 1632 Carroll Avenue in Roanoke.
After returning to the motel and learning about the sexual assault of their child, the parents called 9-1-1.
According to the sheriff's office, Donley, who was wearing a gray hoodie shirt and jeans at the time, then fled the scene in his blue 2014 Kia Forte with Virginia Registration VWM-5364.
Deputies later found Donley on Barrows Mill Road and tried to conduct a traffic stop, but he fled at a high rate of speed.
Deputies said they chased Donley east on Route 57 towards Pittsylvania County at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.
During the pursuit, Donley hit another vehicle, drove into the oncoming lane, almost striking several other vehicles, and turned his headlights off while driving at high speeds, according to authorities.
The sheriff's office said due to the number of vehicles on the road and the increasing risk to the citizens, deputies determined it was necessary to stop pursuing the vehicle.
Investigators have issued arrest six warrants on Donley for the following:
