Man leads police on multi-state chase after trying to run his ex off the road




MARTINSVILLE, VA – A man is in jail after he led law enforcement on a multi-state pursuit that ended in Martinsville on Monday night.


According to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina, it all started around 9:13 p.m. as a domestic related situation.


The sheriff's office said Jonathan Carl Jones, 40, of Madison, North Carolina tried to run his ex off the road with his black Ford F-250 pickup truck following an argument.


That's when an Eden, North Carolina police vehicle passed them and turned around to attempt to stop the Ford, which sped up and fled.


The sheriff’s office then joined chase and the Virginia State Police, Henry County Sheriff's Office and Martinsville Police Department picked it up when they entered into their respective jurisdiction.

Jonathan Jones has been charged with:

  • Felony fleeing to elude arrest

  • Assault on a female

  • Assault with a deadly weapon (vehicle) with intent to kill

  • Injury to personal property


Those charges will be served on him after he is extradited back to Rockingham County from Virginia.
