17-year-old on dirt bike killed after being hit by vehicle

PATRICK COUNTY, VA – A 17-year-old is dead following a two-vehicle crash in Patrick County on Wednesday night.

According to Virginia State Police, a 2000 Chevrolet Lumina was going east on Route 57, just east of Route 844, when it came across a 1996 Honda dirt bike going the same direction.

Police said that at around 9:45 p.m., the Chevrolet driver swerved to the left to avoid the dirt bike and the driver of the dirt bike swerved to the left at the same time to avoid the Chevrolet.

The Chevrolet then rear-ended the dirt bike and ejected the teen, authorities said.

The driver of the motorcycle was identified as 17-year-old Darren Leland Michaud of Stuart.

According to state police, he was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle was not hurt.

The crash remains under investigation.
