Man in Custody for Weekend Shooting in Amherst County

A man wanted in connection with a weekend shooting in Amherst County is now

in custody after being arrested by Amtrak Police in Washington, D.C., authorities announced Monday.


According to the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office, Teron William Slaughter was taken into custody in the nation’s capital and is expected to be extradited back to Virginia within the next couple of weeks.


Sheriff Jimmy Ayers said deputies were called to the 100 block of Toytown Road on the morning of November 23, 2025, where they discovered a man suffering from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was airlifted to a hospital for treatment. His condition has not been released.

Investigators quickly identified Slaughter as the suspect and tracked him to Washington, D.C., where Amtrak Police located and arrested him.


Authorities have not released information regarding charges or a possible motive, and the investigation remains active.


The Amherst County Sheriff’s Office said additional details will be announced as they become available.
