RIDGEWAY, VA – A man was shot and killed in his Ridgeway home on September 21.
At 1:09 p.m. that day, authorities got a call about an unconscious and unresponsive man at 4 Poplar Street.
Deputies arrived and found Brent Douglas Wagoner, 40, of that address, inside the home.
Wagoner had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wagoner’s body was transported to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office, where an autopsy was performed.
Investigators say they collected items of evidence and obtained cell phone and data records.
The Sheriff’s Office said the physical evidence has been submitted to the Virginia Department of Forensic Science for analysis and they are awaiting the laboratory results.
“We needed further information before releasing anything. We want to keep the citizens we serve informed on what happens in our community, but we never want to report inaccurate or vague information that could be misinterpreted,” Captain Wayne Davis of the Sheriff’s Office told BTW21 News.
As this investigation continues, Davis said they have a person of interest they are pursuing in this homicide
