BASSETT, VA – The man wanted in connection to a deadly shooting in Bassett over the weekend has turned himself in.
Saturday at around 8:18 p.m., authorities received a call that a man had been shot in the parking lot of 950 Blackberry Road.
Five minutes later, deputies arrived at the scene and found Lewis Javon Rumley, 41, of Hardin Road in Fieldale, lying on the ground.
Rumley suffered at least one gunshot wound to the torso and died at the scene, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation shows that Rumley and Dewayne Euvonne Austin Jr., 20, agreed to meet on Blackberry Road.
The sheriff's office said both men exited their vehicles and Austin shot Rumley.
Austin, of Niblett Drive in Martinsville, turned himself in Sunday at around 11 p.m.
Arrest warrants for first degree murder and use of a firearm during the commission of first degree murder were served on him.
He is being held in the Henry County Jail without bond.
