Man charged with DUI after his wife jumps out of moving vehicle and dies in Henry County



HENRY COUNTY, VA – A man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after his wife jumped out of his moving truck and died following an argument.

The incident occurred Thursday at 10:05 p.m. in front of the Super 8 motel on Memorial Boulevard in Henry County.

Virginia State Police say the married couple was intoxicated and began to argue.


The wife, 28-year-old April Star Hollandsworth of Martinsville, jumped from a 2004 Ford Ranger while it was speeding, according to state police.


Authorities say she received a head injury when she hit the ground and died at the scene.


The driver, Joshua Wayne Hollandsworth, was arrested at the scene and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.


Police say the investigation found that the wife jumped from the truck of her own will.


The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Crash Reconstruction Team responded to assist with the incident.


The incident remains under investigation.
