Man breaks into Henry County deputy’s home, is held at gunpoint and detained




HENRY COUNTY, VA – A man from Danville is facing charges after breaking into a Henry County deputy’s home Sunday morning.


According to the Henry County Sheriff's Office, one of their off-duty deputies was awakened by someone breaking through their basement door.


The residential burglary occurred at around 6 a.m. on Figsboro Road.


The sheriff's office said the deputy found 27-year-old Ronald Wayne Mitchell III, of Sweet Gum Lane, in the basement.


The deputy held Mitchell at gunpoint, handcuffed him and detained him until a patrol unit arrived, according to the Martinsville-Henry County 9-1-1 Center.


Ronald Mitchell was taken into custody without incident and was charged with breaking and entering with intent to commit assault and possession of a concealed weapon.


He is currently held in the Henry County Jail without bond.
