HENRY COUNTY, VA — A 63-year-old man was arrested Saturday afternoon following a low-speed police pursuit through Collinsville that ended near a local restaurant on Commonwealth Boulevard.
According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began at approximately 4:40 p.m. when the Martinsville/Henry County Communication Center received a report of a reckless driver operating a gray Toyota sedan on Virginia Avenue.
The caller stated the vehicle was swerving across lanes and nearly collided with several other cars while heading toward Walmart.
Deputies located the vehicle and observed it failing to maintain its lane. When they attempted a traffic stop, the driver ignored their emergency signals and continued down Virginia Avenue before turning onto Commonwealth Boulevard.
Deputies engaged in a low-speed pursuit, with speeds averaging around 35 mph. Thanks to the slower pace, law enforcement was able to position their vehicles in front of the suspect’s car to bring it to a safe stop.
The pursuit came to an end near Chopstix on Commonwealth Blvd. when the suspect’s vehicle struck the rear of a deputy’s cruiser.
The driver, identified as Eric Williams, 63, of Cascade, was taken into custody without incident.
Williams now faces multiple charges, including:
Felony Eluding Police
Driving Under the Influence
Driving Without a License
Failure to Maintain Lane
Insufficient Tread Depth
He is currently being held without bond at the Henry County Adult Detention Center.
Authorities say no injuries were reported during the incident.
