MARTINSVILLE, VA – A man was taken into custody after he led law enforcement on a lengthy foot pursuit in Martinsville.
According to radio traffic, the male ran from a Martinsville police officer on New Dale Street around 8 p.m. Saturday.
More units from the Martinsville Police Department and Henry County Sheriff’s Office responded to search the area after reports that the suspect ran into a wooded area between Pace Street and Rives Road.
Martinsville Fire and EMS was called after an older man in the 700 block of Pace Street was allegedly assaulted by the suspect around 8:45 p.m.
At 10:11 p.m., the suspect knocked on the door of a home in the 600 block of Clift Street and advised the resident that he had been stabbed and needed medical treatment.
Police officers responded to the scene, but the suspect had left the area when officers arrived about 2 minutes later.
He was found and arrested in the 500 block of Clift Street around 10:25 p.m.
Radio traffic indicated that the man was wanted, but it is unclear what for.
