HENRY COUNTY, Va. (BTW21) — A 28-year-old man is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting a firefighter during a brush fire response in Henry County on Friday, April 19.

According to Henry County Sheriff Wayne Davis, the incident occurred on Lewis Road when firefighters from the Dyers Store Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene to contain a brush fire.

While working to control the fire, firefighters encountered Corey Taylor, who was reportedly playing loud music on a radio near the scene.

Emergency crews asked Taylor to lower the volume so they could clearly hear communications over their dispatch radios.

Sheriff Davis said Taylor initially complied with the request, but soon after turned the volume back up.

When asked a second time to reduce the noise, Taylor reportedly became aggressive and struck one of the firefighters in the head and face.

The injured firefighter was transported to a local emergency room for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not been publicly disclosed.

Taylor was arrested at the scene. He is now facing charges of public intoxication and felony assault on a firefighter.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing. Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding Taylor’s motive or condition at the time of the arrest.

Anyone with information related to the incident is encouraged to contact the Henry County Sheriff's Office.
