Man Apprehended by K9 After Fleeing Deputies in Henry County

April 10, 2025 – Henry County, VA (BTW21) A routine encounter by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office Drug Interdiction Unit led to a foot chase and the arrest of a wanted man on Wednesday evening.
At approximately 6:00 PM on April 9, deputies made contact with a suspicious vehicle near the intersection of Blackberry Road and Stones Dairy Road.
During the consensual encounter, they identified one of the vehicle’s occupants as Christopher Roger Riggs, 29, of 377 Oliver Dr., Bassett.
Deputies discovered Riggs had an active felony warrant for Failure to Appear in court, connected to a charge of Violent Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
As deputies attempted to place Riggs under arrest, he resisted and fled on foot.
K9 Zajo, accompanied by his handler, was deployed and successfully apprehended Riggs a short distance from the scene.
Riggs was taken into custody and is currently being held without bond at the Henry County Adult Detention Center. He is facing multiple charges, including:
Failure to Appear in Court for Felony Offense (Va. Code §19.2-128 – Felony)
Assault on Law Enforcement (Va. Code §18.2-57 – Felony)
Falsely Identifying Self to Law Enforcement (Va. Code §19.2-82.1 – Felony)
Resisting Arrest (Va. Code §18.2-460 – Misdemeanor)
Contempt of Court (Va. Code §18.2-456 – Misdemeanor)
Violation of Conditions of Release (Va. Code §19.2-123 – Misdemeanor)
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident and is urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
