Line of Storms Cause Power Outages

MARTINSVILLE –With the severe weather moving in this evening and a saturated ground in place, high winds are causing several hundred to over a 1,000 customers are in the dark. More outages are expected later this evening, as the line of storms will be moving in this evening.


According to Appalachian Power, the following locations are in the dark as of Thursday evening:

Franklin: 1,997

Henry: 389

Patrick: 149


The National Weather Service of Blacksburg, Virginia has issued a Wind Advisory for our entire coverage area until 12:00 PM Friday, November 1, 2019. Sustained winds are expected to stay between 10-20 MPH, with gust as high as 50 MPH later Thursday night into the early hours of Friday morning.


Along with the Wind Advisory, a Tornado Watch is also issued until 11:00 PM Thursday, October 31, 2019.


Our Weatherman, Dustin Staples, will continue to keep us informed throughout this evening and into Friday morning.
