ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — A perceived threat posted on TikTok involving Rockingham County Middle School was determined to be a hoax allegedly created by a juvenile, according to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office.

Early Wednesday morning, Rockingham County Schools administration and officials at Rockingham County Middle School contacted the Sheriff’s Office after learning of the social media post.

Detectives immediately launched an extensive investigation in coordination with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and SBI agents from the Greensboro District.

Investigators identified the juvenile allegedly responsible for the post. The Sheriff’s Office said charges are forthcoming.

Authorities assured parents, students and members of the community that there is no danger to the school. Officials said the threat was quickly identified, reported and investigated, and the school was not believed to be in danger at any point. Precautionary safety measures were still implemented during the investigation.

“The Sheriff’s Office takes every reported threat seriously and will continue working closely with our schools and law enforcement partners to protect the safety of our students and staff,” the agency stated.

Additional information about the juvenile will likely remain limited because of the individual’s age.
