JUST IN | P&HCC The Patrick Promise

Martinsville, VA

On October 10, 2024, the Patrick County Education Foundation (PCEF) hosted a meeting for community business leaders at the Baliles and Reynolds Learning Center at Patrick & Henry Community College (P&HCC) in Stuart.

This event was part of their ongoing efforts to support the higher education aspirations of Patrick County students.

PCEF Chair Dr. Stewart Roberson and P&HCC President and PCEF Executive Director Dr. Greg Hodges provided updates on the Patrick Promise initiative, which aims to offer free tuition to students from Patrick County attending P&HCC.

Dr. Hodges emphasized the importance of this initiative, noting that while Patrick County ranks among the top 10 in Virginia for high school graduation rates, it falls behind in post-high school educational attainment. “We are dedicated to helping every community member secure good-paying jobs with family-sustaining wages in Patrick County,” he stated.

P&HCC has seen significant growth in Patrick County, offering a range of programs including general education courses, welding courses at Patrick County High School, and specialized training in powerline work, Mechatronics, and more. Heavy Equipment Operator training is also set to begin in February 2025.

To support the Patrick Promise, PCEF has established ambitious fundraising goals: $45,000 for the first year, $90,000 for the second, and $135,000 for the third, with a total of $270,000 needed to launch the program. They are currently well on their way with a balance of $160,175.68.

Dr. Roberson encouraged community and business members to contribute, stating, “We believe that Patrick County students are well worth our investment and invite everyone to support their education to foster the continued growth of our area.”

About Patrick Promise: This initiative aims to enhance post-high school credential attainment, combat population decline, and boost the economic attractiveness and workforce development potential of Patrick County.
