COLLINSVILLE, VA – Henry County authorities are investigating an animal cruelty case after a dog was left to die in a porta-potty.
The sheriff’s department got a call that a dog had been abandoned at Jaycee Park on Parkwood Court in Collinsville shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday.
The 9-1-1 caller stated that the tan-and-black-colored dog was left in a porta-potty with a traffic cone in front of the door, preventing it from getting out.
A deputy responded and found the dog inside the porta-potty.
“The dog was in very bad health,” Investigations Division Captain Tim Compton wrote in a news release. “The animal control deputy immediately took the dog to a local veterinarian clinic. Unfortunately, due to the dog's poor health conditions, it had to be humanly euthanized.”
Captain Compton said the department is seeking help from the public to get information on who may have abandoned the dog.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the sheriff’s department at 276-638-8751 or Crimestoppers at 276-632-7463.
Two citizens are offering a total of $1,500 in addition to the $2,500 Crimestoppers reward for information related to this crime that leads to an arrest and conviction.
