Intoxicated man leads police on high-speed chase


HENRY COUNTY, VA – A Collinsville man is facing a handful of charges after he led law enforcement on a high-speed pursuit on Thursday.


Around 4 p.m., Virginia State Police troopers say they attempted to speak to a person in a Nissan Rogue about a hit-and-run when the driver sped away.


The Nissan fled from State Police leading them and the Martinsville Police Department and the Henry County Sheriff's Office though Virginia Avenue, Memorial Boulevard and A.L. Philpott Highway.


The chase reached speeds of over 110 miles per hour, according to police.


The vehicle was spiked to get it stopped near the Henry/Patrick counties line.


43-year-old Jeffrey Howard Richards, of Ridge Road, was the driver and was charged with:

  • Felony unauthorized use of a vehicle

  • Felony law enforcement command: continue driving 20+ miles per hour, endanger

  • Felony license revoked: driving without a license, endangers

  • Misdemeanor driving with intoxicated, first offense, blood alcohol level more than 0.20


Richards was taken to the Henry County Adult Detention Center.
