HENRY COUNTY, VA – An inmate in the Henry County Adult Detention Center died Friday morning as a result of an apparent medical emergency, according to Sheriff Wayne Davis.
Detention center staff found Corby Ray Dillard, 47, of Stultz Road, Martinsville suffering from a medical emergency around 2:42 a.m.
Sheriff Davis said deputies and the Henry County Department of Public Safety provided life-saving efforts until Dillard was pronounced dead.
Dillard entered the detention center, reported numerous pre-existing medical conditions and he was placed in a handicap cell, Davis said.
According to Sheriff Davis, the preliminary investigative findings indicate Dillard suffered a sudden medical emergency in his cell and passed away.
The sheriff has requested the Virginia State Police conduct an inquiry into this case, which will also be forwarded to the Virginia Board of Local and Regional Jails for review.
