HENRY COUNTY, Va. (BTW21) – A homicide investigation is underway after a 79-year-old man was found dead early Thursday morning in the middle of a rural roadway in Henry County, Virginia.
According to Virginia State Police, troopers and deputies from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office responded at approximately 1:21 a.m. to a report of an unresponsive male lying in the roadway on Vista View Lane.
Upon arrival, responders discovered the man was deceased.
Initially, authorities believed the victim's injuries were the result of a vehicle collision.
However, after further examination by the Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation-Salem Division, investigators determined that the injuries were inconsistent with those typically seen in pedestrian-vehicle accidents.
Evidence gathered at the scene instead pointed to foul play, leading officials to reclassify the case as a homicide.

Authorities believe the incident occurred between 12:30 a.m. and 1:20 a.m. Thursday morning.
Virginia State Police are urging anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area during that time frame to come forward.
