ROANOKE, Va. (BTW21) — A high-speed police chase that began on Interstate 581 in Roanoke during Thursday’s evening commute ended in a violent crash just inside Botetourt County, generating significant attention in the area.

At approximately 5:01 p.m. on July 17, a Virginia State Police trooper attempted to stop a black BMW for multiple traffic violations.

Rather than pulling over, the driver accelerated in an attempt to flee, reaching speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour.

The pursuit continued northbound onto Peters Creek Road and then to Route 11.

Due to the dangerous speeds and traffic conditions, the trooper made the decision to terminate the chase.

Moments later, the BMW crashed near Shadwell Drive in Botetourt County, colliding with three other vehicles.

One individual in one of the struck vehicles sustained injuries and was transported to LewisGale Medical Center for treatment.

Their condition has not been publicly disclosed.

The 18-year-old driver of the BMW, whose name has not yet been released, was taken into custody at the scene.

He faces multiple charges related to the pursuit and the subsequent crash.

Virginia State Police continue to investigate the incident.

Authorities urge anyone with additional information or dashcam footage of the chase to come forward.

This story will be updated as more details become available.
