HENRY COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE ARRESTS SUSPECT IN RIDGEWAY HOMICIDE

RIDGEWAY, VA (October 20, 2025) — The Henry County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of Joseph Chad Lockett in connection with the fatal shooting of his estranged wife, Rhonda Hairston, also known as Rhonda Lockett.
The arrest took place at approximately 5:45 p.m. on Monday, October 20, 2025.
Authorities responded to a residence at 225 Nibblett Drive after receiving credible information that Lockett was inside.
Deputies, investigators, and tactical units surrounded the home, leading to a brief standoff.
Lockett, age 40, ultimately surrendered peacefully, exiting the front door with his hands raised.
He was taken into custody without further incident.
Lockett faces multiple felony charges, including:
First-Degree Murder (VA Code § 18.2-32)
Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony (VA Code § 18.2-53.1)
Possession of a Firearm by a Violent Convicted Felon (VA Code § 18.2-308.2)
The charges stem from the homicide of Rhonda Hairston, who was found dead on October 18, 2025, at her residence on 1159 Garrett Road in Ridgeway.
Investigators quickly identified Lockett as the primary suspect and launched an intensive search that culminated in Monday’s arrest.
Sheriff Wayne Davis expressed gratitude to the community and cooperating agencies for their assistance in the case.
“We are grateful for the assistance of our community and partner agencies in the swift apprehension of Joseph ‘Chad’ Lockett,” said Sheriff Davis. “Our prayers are with the family of our victim, Rhonda Hairston, during this difficult time.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
