Henry County Sheriff on task force formed to review Short family murder case

HENRY COUNTY, VA – The Henry County Sheriff's Office has created a multi-agency task force to review the Short family murder case.

This was announced at Sheriff Lane Perry's abrupt press conference on Thursday morning.

“This has always been an ongoing investigation,” said Perry.

He said most of the original investigators have retired or left law enforcement.

The hope is for the task force to bring new investigators up to speed with the case and look for information that may lead to a suspect.

According to the sheriff, they will be reviewing all aspects of the case, including the physical evidence to determine if advancements in forensic technology may be able to develop a suspect.

Personnel from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Rockingham County, NC Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police and FBI will be providing investigative assistance and resources.

“Sheriff Lane Perry would like to thank the community for never allowing this case to be forgotten. We believe there is someone out there who has information that may solve this case. We encourage people to come forward with that information no matter how small it may seem,” the sheriff's office said in a release.

A reward of $62,500 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect(s) responsible for the deaths of the Short family.
