Collinsville, VA – (BTW21) Authorities are investigating an early morning shooting and home invasion that occurred Wednesday on Sunset Road in Collinsville, revealing not only a violent encounter but a significant cache of drugs, firearms, and suspected criminal activity.

According to a media release from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a 911 call reporting gunshots at 3378 Sunset Road at approximately 5:09 a.m. on July 23.

When deputies arrived five minutes later, they found multiple doors to the residence open and visible blood inside the home.

A safety sweep of the property uncovered spent shell casings and evidence of forced entry. No one was found inside the house.

Shortly after the deputies arrived on scene, SOVAH Health Emergency Department alerted law enforcement that a gunshot victim had arrived at the hospital.

The victim was identified as Antony Hagwood, a resident of the Sunset Road address. Hagwood had suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper torso.

Preliminary findings suggest that two unidentified suspects broke into Hagwood’s home and opened fire upon encountering him.

Hagwood was struck once but reportedly returned fire before fleeing the home and seeking medical help.

A search warrant was quickly obtained for the Sunset Road property. What investigators found inside expanded the case significantly. Deputies recovered:

  • Over 10 pounds of marijuana

  • A quantity of prescription pills

  • Narcotics packaging materials

  • Multiple firearms, including one confirmed as stolen

  • An undisclosed amount of U.S. currency

  • Money counting machines

A second search warrant was executed on the vehicle that transported Hagwood to the hospital.

Inside, deputies located another firearm and additional marijuana.

The suspects in the shooting and home invasion have not yet been identified, and investigators are working to determine the motive and possible connections between the shooting and the illegal items discovered in the home.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information to come forward.

Tips can be submitted by calling the Sheriff’s Office at (276) 638-8751 or contacting CrimeStoppers at 63-CRIME (632-7463).

Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for rewards of up to $2,500 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
