GEORGIA MAN ARRESTED AFTER DANVILLE SHOOTING

A Georgia man is awaiting extradition to Virginia after police say he shot his adult son during a domestic-related incident in Danville.

Danville police responded around 4:25 a.m. Sunday, July 26, to the area of Newton and Craghead streets. Investigators allege that 47-year-old Derrick Brown fired one shot at his 26-year-old son following an argument, striking him in the leg.

The victim, a Danville resident, was treated at Sovah Health and later released.

Police said Brown fled the area in a vehicle but was later arrested during a traffic stop conducted by the Georgia State Patrol. He is expected to be extradited to Virginia.

Brown faces the following charges:

* Malicious wounding

* Reckless handling of a firearm

* Discharging a firearm in a public place

* Possession of a firearm by a violent convicted felon

* Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
