Four people are displaced by fire which erupts in Bassett

BASSETT, VA – Four people were displaced after a home on Graystone Road in Bassett caught fire on Wednesday evening.

The Bassett Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the blaze around 6 p.m.

The two-story home was fully involved when firefighters arrived so additional fire departments were called to assist.

Bassett Fire Chief Junior Lynch told BTW21 News four adults and four dogs live in the home and everyone made it out safe.

“He does have insurance so I will be contacting the Red Cross to assist all of them with, maybe, a place to stay. I think they may have a place to stay, but with some clothing vouchers and other things,” Lynch said.

The Fire Chief said the property is likely a total loss.

“Nothing seems suspicious. The homeowner stated that he seen the fire in the utility room where the washer and dryer is at. That's where he thinks it start at, but not real sure about the cause yet,” The Fire Chief stated.

Henry County Fire Marshal Lisa Garrett said the ignition source is undetermined, but it appears to be an accidental fire.

Fire departments from Patrick-Henry, Fieldale, and Collinsville and rescue squads from Bassett and Henry County responded.
