ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. (BTW21) — A 65-year-old Madison man has been arrested on multiple felony charges following an investigation into a structure fire that occurred earlier this month.
On July 22, 2025, emergency crews responded to a reported structure fire at approximately 6:48 a.m. at 210 Paisley Road in Madison, N.C. Upon arrival, fire personnel discovered a pole barn fully engulfed in flames.
The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office and the Rockingham County Fire Marshal’s Office immediately launched a joint investigation.
As the investigation progressed, authorities uncovered that in addition to the pole barn, four bulk barns, two tractors, a cutter, and a tobacco primer had also been destroyed by fire.
The following day, July 23, Ricky Arnold Farmer was taken into custody on outstanding warrants for Assault on Emergency Personnel stemming from a separate incident that occurred on July 10 at 449 Janet Road in Stoneville, N.C. At the time of his arrest, Farmer was considered a person of interest in the Madison fire and was questioned regarding the incident.
Though he was later bonded out on the assault charges, the arson investigation continued.
After consulting with the Rockingham County District Attorney’s Office, investigators obtained additional warrants for Farmer’s arrest on July 25 in connection to the Paisley Road fires.
On July 26, Ricky Arnold Farmer was arrested without incident and brought before a magistrate, where he was denied bond.
Farmer now faces the following charges:
Five counts of Felony Burning of Certain Structures
Four counts of Felony Burning of Personal Property
He is scheduled to appear in Rockingham County District Court on August 18, 2025.
The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that this case, along with related incidents, remains under active investigation.
Authorities also extended their appreciation to the Rockingham County Fire Marshal’s Office for their continued support and collaboration.
